CONVICTED rapist Madzibaba Ishmael Chokurongerwa is expected to be sentenced this Tuesday by Harare Regional magistrate Estere Chivasa, who convicted him of raping and impregnating a 14-year-old congregant.
The Apostolic sect leader was convicted earlier this month after a full trial.
Madzibaba Ishmael was convicted following DNA tests, which proved that he was the biological father of the victim’s child.
Despite the evidence, he still maintained his innocence, arguing that the results were tainted and inadmissible.
The prosecution argued that Madzibaba Ishmael abused his position as a trusted religious leader to exploit and rape young congregants under the guise of religious authority.
Madzibaba Ishmael was initially charged with three counts of rape but was convicted on one count after the Court established that the other two were adults who could consent.
