MOUNT Darwin-based Division One side Agama FC are on the verge of making history as they aim for promotion to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) ahead of their final Northern Region Soccer League fixture this weekend.
With just one match remaining, Agama face Oden FC in what promises to be a decisive encounter that could determine their place in the country’s top-flight football next season.
The team’s remarkable run this season has ignited excitement among fans in Mount Darwin, who are hopeful of celebrating their club’s elevation to the country’s top-flight league.
Earning three points will earn the Mount Darwin-based side promotion into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, and team captain Tinashe Balakasi says morale is high in the camp.
“All I can promise the fans is that we are going to bring the trophy home. We have had 23 unbeaten games, and we are playing well, so we are going to win,” he said.
The match will be a homecoming game for Agama defender Ackson Labana, who made his name in Banket while playing for Banket FC.
“I started playing in Banket as you all know, so I am excited that we are going to be playing this important game in my home area. I urge all fans to come in their numbers,” he said.
Agama coach Paul Chimalizeni, who joined the team mid-season, is pleased with the team’s performance, highlighting his boys have the zeal to pursue the sole ticket to the PSL on Sunday.
“The game is not over until it is over, and the boys have the zeal to bring the trophy home, so the title race is still open. We have won 17 of our last 23 games and drawn five, so we are performing well,” he said.
Agama FC have gone for 23 games unbeaten.
However, the Mount Darwin side is second on the Northern Region Soccer League table and will have to dislodge N’ombeyawora, who are at the summit of the log.
