APRM, Pan African Parliament strengthen partnership to promote good governance

THE African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) has pledged to work with the Pan African parliament (PAP) to foster good governance on the continent.

Addressing the sixth ordinary session of the sixth Pan African Parliament (PAP) in Midrand South Africa this Monday, APRM Chief Executive Officer Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose Quatre called for a concerted effort to achieve the desired results.

“We must accelerate peer review processes, promote data transparency and institutionalise shared learning across member states. The APRM ‘s reviews in Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Sao Tome and Principe, Egypt are not ends in themselves, they are tools for action, monitoring and accountability. Their findings will be subsequently shared with AU policy organs including the Pan-African Parliament for deliberation and dissemination” she said.

This comes at a time when Zimbabwe is hosting the APRM panel of eminent persons, assessing Zimbabwe’s performance in terms of governance, identifying areas of improvement, and strengthening strategies to attract investment and strengthen regional integration among other issues.

Meanwhile, the Pan African Parliament has drawn special attention to the humanitarian crisis is Sudan amid calls for urgent intervention to end the conflict which has left an estimated 40 000 people dead since 2023.

Silencing guns on the continent was one of the topical issues during the second day of the sixth ordinary session of the sixth Pan African Parliament in Midrand, South Africa this Monday.
