Mpofu, Chimombe sentencing postponed to November 17

Story by Peter Chivhima

THE High Court has postponed sentencing for convicted businessmen Moses Mpofu and Mike Chimombe to November 17, following their conviction for defrauding the Government of more than US$7 million under the Presidential Goat Pass-On Scheme.

The two were found guilty after a full trial in which the State proved beyond reasonable doubt that they manipulated a government tender process through fraudulent means.

Pre-sentencing was set for October 14.

The duo orchestrated a fraudulent tender scheme, manipulating a government tender for the Presidential Goat Pass-on Scheme.

Mpofu and Chimombe used Blackdeck Private Limited, a company allegedly created as a front, to secure the tender through fraudulent means.

The pair submitted forged ZIMRA tax clearance documents and NSSA compliance certificates, which were mandatory for tender eligibility.
