THE Ghana Commodities Exchange (GCX) has commended the Zimbabwe Mercantile Exchange (ZMX) for its pivotal role in strengthening regional cooperation and promoting integration across Africa’s commodity trading markets.
A high-level GCX delegation has been in Zimbabwe on a benchmarking and knowledge-sharing mission aimed at fostering collaboration and operational efficiency among African commodity exchanges.
GCX Chief Executive Officer, Ms Evelyn Abakah, said the visit reflects the growing momentum towards continental integration and trade harmonisation under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), with commodities exchanges playing a pivotal role in promoting intra-African trade, price transparency, and value chain efficiency.
“Following similar missions by the Angolan Debt and Stock Exchange (BODIVA) earlier this year, the GCX delegation seeks to gain first-hand insights into ZMX’s Warehouse Receipt System (WRS), digital trading platforms, and public–private partnership model that underpin its operational success,” she said.
ZMX Chief Executive Officer, Mr Collen Tapfumaneyi, noted that such engagements demonstrate the spirit of African collaboration in building robust, transparent and interconnected markets.
“Benchmarking is essential to ensuring the smooth exchange of knowledge, technology, and investment across borders. Furthermore, this dovetails with the spirit of further enhancing business ties to boost growth,” he said.
The sharing of notes between ZMX, GCX, and other emerging markets aligns with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)’s broader objective of establishing integrated and competitive commodity markets across the continent, fostering food security, financial inclusion and sustainable growth.
