PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has conveyed deepest condolences to the families and communities affected by the fatal Limpopo bus accident, which claimed at least 40 lives, including Zimbabwean citizens.
In a statement, the President confirmed that relevant government departments and agencies have been instructed to extend state assistance for the repatriation and burial of Zimbabwean victims.
The government will also cover all hospital bills for those injured in the accident.
President Mnangagwa conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who perished in Zimbabwe and other SADC countries affected.
He said the loss of so many lives once again underscores the need for utmost diligence in the movement of people across borders, irrespective of differences in national legislation.
“In view of increased cross-border movements in our SADC region, facilitated by our collective efforts towards a borderless community, it has become incumbent for traffic enforcement agencies across jurisdictions to collaborate more closely, and for our respective governments to harmonise our legislations in respect of vehicular traffic,” he said.
President Mnangagwa expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of the government of the Republic of South Africa in responding to the incident.
