Hunters reclaim top spot in ZIFA Eastern Region title race

MARONDERA-based Hunters have returned to the summit of the ZIFA Eastern Region Soccer League standings after edging championship rivals Masvingo United 1–0 at a packed Rudaka Stadium this Sunday.

Touted as a potential title decider, the clash lived up to expectations, with both sides displaying quality football and determination. In the end, it was Hunters who emerged victorious, courtesy of a 47th-minute strike from veteran captain Cabby Kamhapa.

The victory sees Hunters move to 63 points, two ahead of Masvingo United, with just two matches remaining in the campaign.

Hunters coach Cliff Dzvairo expressed delight after the crucial win.

“We are very excited with this victory as we have now moved back to the top with two matches to go, as we move towards the championship,” he said.

The title race remains wide open, with Tenax keeping up the pressure after thrashing Renco Mine 4–0 to move to 61 points.

In other matches played over the weekend, FC Mazodze beat Tongogara 3–0, Rusitu edged GZU 2–0, while Murambinda dismissed St Paul’s Musami 3–0.
