A Bikita trio has been arrested on allegations of murdering a four-year-old girl by feeding her poisoned rice in a suspected act of revenge over crop damage caused by the child’s family.
In a heart-wrenching case of alleged revenge that has rocked Mandinyenya Village in Bikita, three suspects have been arrested for murdering a four-year-old girl using poisoned rice.
The suspects, Violet Gamera (60), Chamunorwa Kwanga (60), and Regina Tavengerarwei (30) are accused of murdering Sabina Maziva, reportedly over a dispute involving crop damage by goats belonging to the child’s parents.
According to a statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) this Sunday, Gamera is alleged to have fed the child poisoned rice to retaliate against her parents.
The child later began vomiting and was rushed to a local clinic, but her condition deteriorated, leading to her death four days later.
The child was laid to rest on October 8, and during the burial, suspicions of poisoning surfaced, prompting a police investigation.
Gamera reportedly implicated Kwanga, who is said to have advised her to poison the child, and Tavengerarwei, who allegedly supplied the toxic rat poison.
The arrests come as the nation is still mourning the tragic deaths of three children in Kuwadzana Extension who were found stashed in a vehicle trunk last week, compounding public concern over the safety of children in Zimbabwe.
