THE Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU) rugby team, known as the ZEGU Rhinos, has departed for Nairobi, Kenya, to compete in the 2025 Africa University Rugby 7s Championship.
The tournament, organised by the Federation of African University Sports (FASU), will run from October 4 to 5, and brings together top university rugby teams from across the continent.
The ZEGU Rhinos earned the right to represent Zimbabwe at the continental games after winning the ZTISU and the Chancellors games.
The team is led by former Zimbabwe youth international Gelean Jaricha, who won the Barthes Trophy with the Junior Sables.
“We know the challenge ahead, but we are geared up for it. We’ve been putting in the yards in training, and we should be able to bring medals,” ZEGU Rhinos player Gelean Jaricha said.
The team is ready to make Zimbabwe proud.
“We are ready for the battle. There are universities that have been there before, but we stand a chance,” a rugby player said.
“The boys are in a good mood and we cannot wait to get started,” a technical team member said.
The winners of the tournament will qualify for the 2026 FISU World University Championship Rugby 7s, slated for South Africa.
