AS the Expo2025 Osaka draws to a close in Japan, Zimbabwe is looking at benefitting from technology transfer opportunities and driving industrialisation.

This comes as Vice President Colonel (Rtd) Kembo Mohadi this Wednesday took part in the Manufacturing World Exhibition, where countries are showcasing the latest industry trends, technology and innovations.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer for an Indian company, BE Metallurgy, Mr Bharat Gite said there is a shift towards Africa in terms of manufacturing and spoke on possibilities of them moving some of their production units to Zimbabwe.

“Our product line is labour-intensive and needs a huge workforce and it is possible to take some operations to Zimbabwe, but we have to assess the market trends first,” he said.

At the conclusion of his tour of exhibitions, Vice President Mohadi challenged Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector players to embrace technology if they are to remain relevant in the industry.

“The world production terms are changing and as such our business people must embrace technology and move with times so that they remain competitive, so this is an eye opener for us all to emulate,” he said.

The Second Republic is prioritising industrialisation under the National Development Strategy One, hence the importance of adopting new technologies to boost industrial productivity.

Over and above providing an opportunity for market synergies, the Expo 2025 Osaka, which kicked off in April this year, has been a platform for Zimbabwe to attract investors and also pursue opportunities for technology transfer.
