Over 500 learners benefit from Corporate Educational Initiative in Hwange

OVER 500 learners across St Mary’s Primary School in Hwange have received essential study kits through a corporate social responsibility initiative spearheaded by a Hwange-based company, marking a significant boost to educational development in the district.

The local firm has taken heed of the government’s call for support towards the development of the education sector.

“We want to be clear and thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for bringing us companies that understand the importance of working with communities. For us here, this is the first time we have seen a company doing this,” SDC Chairperson for St Mary’s Primary School, Mr Cleto Ncube said.

The programme has also benefitted St Mary’s, a newly built school which has had water challenges after the company pledged to sink a borehole, St James, Chilanga, and Dinde Primary Schools in Hwange district.

“This is just the beginning of a long-term vision to support communities and our children. This is our future, and we believe in supporting these children; they are important to us, and we will continue investing in them,” Administration Manager Dinson Colliery, Mr Steve Xing said.

Chinese mining firms have had with positive impact in the education sector, with Hwange district benefiting from the construction of a modern library built through a partnership between the Hwange Local Board and South Mining Company.
