PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has launched the A1 Irrigation Productivity Booster Kits at Craigengower Farm in Mazowe, marking a significant step in strengthening agricultural resilience and productivity in Zimbabwe.

Under the first phase of the programme, 10 000 A1 farmers will benefit, each receiving a US$6 000 loan facility to establish irrigation infrastructure capable of covering three hectares of land. The initiative is designed to transition farmers away from reliance on rain-fed agriculture and towards sustainable, all-year farming.

The President said close to US$2 billion will go towards the booster kits as they are rolled out across the country in the next few years.

The launch of the booster kits is among the government’s initiatives to climate-proof the country’s agriculture programme.

President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe will continue to push towards the attainment of food security, as he noted the positive improvements that have seen an increase in overall production over the past few years.
