Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor
HARARE giants, Dynamos, have been given a reason to believe that they can survive relegation after winning their last four matches following the appointment of former Highlanders Coach, Kelvin Kaindu.
With nine games to go and five points off the last relegation slot, the fading giants are hoping to perform a ‘Houdini Act’ and script a miraculous survival story.
At the helm of the act is a man known as ‘Pastor’, Zambian coach Kelvin Kaindu, who has somehow avoided defeat since he took over from Saul Chaminuka.
DeMbare are on a four-match winning streak with two victories in the league and two more in the Chibuku Super Cup, how they would have loved those cup victories to be in the league.
The soft-spoken Kaindu is taking a leaf out of West Brom’s book after they coined a Great escape in 2005.
West Brom became the first and only team to be bottom of the Premier League at Christmas, on the final day, and even at halftime of their last match, and still managed to avoid relegation.
They were three points adrift of safety with only one game left, but a victory over Portsmouth, coupled with other results going their way, saw them move up to 17th place.
In 2015, Leicester City found themselves seven points adrift with nine games remaining before they managed to string together a series of crucial wins and survive on the final day.
With Dynamos in a precarious position which looks hopeless, Kaindu is a man of faith and sees otherwise.
“It was only faith that led me to Dynamos. I believe I can lead Dynamos to survival. It looks difficult, but it can be done. We still have time, and we just need to continue winning,” he said.
The Harare giants are second from bottom with 22 points, five adrift of fellow relegation-threatened Green Fuel, whom they face at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday hoping to continue with their revival.
Time is a defining factor and will Kaindu’s faith see him over the line?
The answer lies on November 30, the final day of the season.
