THE government has reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating closely with religious organisations, emphasising that churches play a vital role in advancing community development and upholding national values.

Speaking to the congregation of the Johane the Fifth of Africa International Church, led by Archbishop Andby Makururu, during their provincial conference in Masvingo, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Ezra Chadzamira, emphasised the church’s vital role in community empowerment.

He stressed the importance of collaboration between the church and the government to achieve community empowerment.

“Our government has got a very strong relationship with the church, especially our indigenous churches. We recognise the church for its strong following and moral influence, hence we call members to be part of the development trajectory being led by our President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“We are implementing various programmes in communities, including agriculture, tourism, and mining. Be part of those programmes to improve your livelihoods. Again, we believe the church plays a role in praying for peace and unity in the country, and currently, we need the church to be involved in the fight against drug and substance abuse. Let us work together so that we win this fight,” Honourable Chadzamira noted.

Archbishop Andby Makururu expressed gratitude to the government for recognising and engaging the church in development programmes.

“As a church, we value the relationship we have with the government, and our church is not only a spiritual refuge but also a source of livelihood for many. We are running several programmes to empower our members, especially women and youth, particularly in agriculture. We support young people through skills development so that they are productive and independent,” Archbishop Makururu said

The government works with churches in various programmes that empower communities, and President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record saying the church and government share a symbiotic relationship.
