Victoria Falls earns Ramsar Wetland City Status

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

THE City of Victoria Falls has officially received its Ramsar Wetland City Accreditation, becoming Zimbabwe’s first and only city to attain the status.

The certificate was presented this Thursday at the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, joining 31 other cities worldwide.

The accreditation, which is valid for six years, highlights the city’s commitment to sustainable urban development and wetland conservation.

Earlier this year, Victoria Falls was announced as Zimbabwe’s first and currently only city to achieve Ramsar Wetland City status.

Kasane-Kazungula and Shakawe in Botswana were also awarded Wetland City status during the same event.
