MASAKADZA business centre in Gokwe North District has been powered with electricity, a development that has triggered downstream success.
The arrival of electricity, delivered under the government’s rural industrialisation drive, is expected to significantly boost local economic activity with community members applauding the upgrade.
“We are very grateful for this development that has been initiated in our area. Our businesses will now flourish with the coming into power set to help,” one of the beneficiaries said.
“Our schools now have electricity. This means that our children can now learn some subjects like ICT with ease. They can now study in a good environment,” another beneficiary noted.
“The base station has come at the right time. We were having challenges in seeking help in times of emergencies. We are indeed experiencing meaningful help in our area,” one of the beneficiaries added.
Honourable Owen Ncube, Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, highlighted how this electrification aligns with key national and provincial policies.
“As we transition from NDS1 to NDS2, the Second Republic adopted the National Renewable Energy Policy, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the National energy mix, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting sustainable development,” he said.
This initiative, funded through the Rural Electrification Fund, is part of Zimbabwe’s commitment to SDG 7, which aims to ensure all citizens have access to affordable, clean energy.
