PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has departed for Equatorial Guinea to attend the seventh African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, where he will join several other African leaders to discuss the strategic direction of the Union for the coming year.
The summit, set for this Sunday in Malabo, is being held under the African Union’s theme for 2025: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.”
It brings together the AU Assembly Bureau, which comprises Heads of State and Government, chairpersons of the eight Regional Economic Communities (RECs), senior officials of the African Union Commission (AUC), and the continental body’s specialised agencies and other institutional partners.
President Mnangagwa was seen off at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport by Vice President General Retired Constantino Chiwenga, Vice President Kembo Mohadi, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, government ministers, service chiefs, and several senior government officials.
Meanwhile, Vice President General (Rtd) Constantino Chiwenga is serving as Acting President in President Mnangagwa’s absence.
