Dr Chidakwa and Nedbank honored for driving inclusive sport growth

NAMIBIA – THE Director of Sport and Recreation in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Dr Eugenia Chidakwa, together with Nedbank Zimbabwe, were awarded the prestigious Medal of Honour in recognition of their outstanding contributions to sports development in the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5.

Her Excellency, the President of the Republic of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, presented Dr Chidakwa with the Medal of Honour during a ceremony held in recognition of exemplary service and leadership in sport.

Dr Chidakwa, a renowned trailblazer in sports leadership, has served the region with distinction for more than two decades.

Her work has centred on promoting sports development, advancing gender equity, and fostering youth engagement across Southern Africa.

She played a pivotal role in drafting the AUSC Region 5 Sport Policy and Strategy, and in spearheading the establishment of the Women in Sport Commission initiatives that have had far-reaching impact in creating inclusive sporting opportunities for all.

Dr Chidakwa’s visionary leadership continues to shape the region’s sports landscape, with her legacy marked by a firm commitment to inclusivity, excellence, and sustainable development in the sporting fraternity.

Nedbank Zimbabwe was also recognised for its unwavering support of regional sport development, particularly through funding and partnerships that have empowered athletes and improved sporting infrastructure.

The awards serve as a testament to the enduring impact of strategic leadership and corporate support in propelling sport as a tool for regional integration and social transformation.
