ZIFA Northern Division One League log leaders Chinhoyi Rangers are optimistic about maintaining the top position after a one-nil win over Ngezi Platinum Development this Thursday.

The lone goal scored midway through the first half, was enough to seal the win and catapult the Chinhoyi-based side to the top of the Northern Region Division One League standings.

“The journey is a bit long and tough for me to be speaking about premiership. I am focusing on avoiding relegation and building a strong team. But of course, it is every coach’s dream to achieve the best results so we are keeping our eyes on the ball,” Chinhoyi Rangers coach, Ndaona Dube said.

“The squad is a blend of young and experienced players. We are complementing each other well both on and off the field. We are happy with our form having beaten Mwos (U19) last week and now Ngezi Platinum (U19). If we maintain this form and performance, we can play in the Premier League,” Chinhoyi Rangers captain, Gift Bhelo said.

With 16 points from eight games, Chinhoyi Rangers now sit at the summit of the log, fuelling hopes of a historic promotion to the Premier Soccer League.

“This is a community team and it has the support of the people of Chinhoyi. We want the lads to maintain this good form so that by the end of the season we get promoted into the league,” a fan, Thomas Chidzomba said.

“Chinhoyi has never had a team in the League yet it is the capital of the Province. That must change and with this team, we can re-write history. This will go a long way in mitigating against drug and substance abuse,” another fan, Chiedzo Phiri said.

Chinhoyi Rangers are sharing the top position with Agame FC while N’ombeyawora are third with 15 points.

Meanwhile, Chinhoyi Rangers are back in action this Sunday as they travel to Mutorashanga for a date against Pam. On Saturday Golden Eagles face Trojan Stars, while former PSL sides Harare City and Cranborne Bullets clash at Motor Action Sports Club.
