ZIMBABWE’S young female footballers are facing crucial matches this Wednesday, with both the Under-20 and Under-17 teams vying for qualification and progression in their respective tournaments.

The Under 20 girls’ team, the Young Mighty Warriors, are set to mount a strong comeback against Rwanda in the second leg of the World Cup Qualifiers in Kigali this Wednesday.

After losing 2-1 in the first leg, they need a win by more than two goals to overturn the deficit to entertain changes in qualifying for the 2026 Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

With 38 teams competing for just four coveted spots, the stakes are high, and Zimbabwe’s young girls will need to dig deep to advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, the Under-17 girls’ team, participating in the COSAFA Championship in Namibia, face a tough challenge in their final group stage match against Lesotho.

After losing 3-nil to Botswana, who currently top the table with 6 points, Zimbabwe need a convincing win over Lesotho to progress.

A better goal difference will be crucial in determining their fate.

With nine teams drawn in three groups, Zimbabwe aims to push for a semi-final slot from Group C, where the top team from each group and the best runners-up will qualify.
