SMALL and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bulawayo are harnessing skills transfer to propel the growth of the sector.
SMEs are the mainstay of the economy through employment creation.
The creation of a skills manpower development centre will ensure skills transfer for the sector to realise its potential.
The industry continues to surge despite competition from other suppliers.
Entrepreneurs who spoke to ZBC News commended government support while advocating for centres of excellence to showcase their wares
“We are making a living from handwork and we cannot go to bed on empty stomachs since we have something to do even if the income is not much,” an entrepreneur said.
“I am working tirelessly and very hard to make sales and currently, I am working on an order of chimneys for a certain company here in Bulawayo,” an entrepreneur added.
Government continues to capacitate SMEs which are a key contributor to the gross domestic product (GDP) through financial support and the provision of safe workspaces.
