THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) has sent off its 4x400m men’s relay team to the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China slated to commence this Saturday.

The team, comprising Leeford Zuze, Gerren Muwishi, Aldrin Mafa, and Dennis Hove, qualified for the event after a strong performance at the Lefika International Relays in Francistown, Botswana in March.

The team’s qualification marked a historic moment for Zimbabwe, with the team securing the 28th position on the World Athletics ranking list.

With sights set on the finals and potentially qualifying for the World Championships, the team’s expectations are high.

“I believe in this team because we qualified after taking part in just one race. We expect them to give it their best and try to get to the finals,” NAAZ president, Tendai Tagara said.

“We are just going to go through the rounds, survive, and advance. If we make it into the finals, that’s good for us. If we make it into the top 14, the better,” Muwishi stated.

The tournament will take place this weekend with the athletes determined to make their mark on the international stage and possibly qualify for the World Athletics Championships slated for in Tokyo in September.
