WOMEN in Mashonaland Central Province received a significant boost to their economic empowerment this Sunday following the launch of a new income-generating initiative spearheaded by the ZANU PF Women’s League.

As part of its national empowerment campaign, the League handed over an incubator to the provincial leadership to support ongoing poultry production projects.

This initiative builds on last year’s distribution of 5 000 chicks and aims to increase the capacity of women to generate sustainable income.
Beneficiaries welcomed the intervention, describing it as a step towards economic independence.

“I learnt about using this incubator and I am grateful to Cde Chinomona for what she has done for the women. This machine will help us hatch eggs and this will capacitate our poultry pass-on scheme. It will bring us profits and drive us towards prosperity,” a beneficiary said.

“This machine is going to uplift women in Mashonaland Central comprising the young women, the elderly, even men will; benefit from this machine. Today we have been empowered through availing of this machine,” a woman beneficiary said.

ZANU PF National Secretary for Women Affairs, Cde Mabel Chinomona, who handed over the incubator to the provincial leadership, encouraged women to take advantage of empowerment initiatives being rolled out by the government and the ruling party.

“Women let’s arise together, all the time we are coming here we talk of empowerment. This empowerment drive is coming from our President to attain better welfare and improve from where they are. He does not want us to remain where we are. We do not want those who are content with being where they are,” She said.

The incubator handover compliments last year’s distribution of 5 000 chicks, a development commended by provincial leadership.

“Last year you gave us chicks to pass on to each other when they increase. This year you have followed up to strengthen our capacity for producing more chicks and for that we are grateful. What more could we ask for as women who are being empowered,” ZANU PF Mashonaland Central Province Women’s League Chairperson, Cde Tsitsi Gezi said.

“Today you have shown people the way, I thank you for carrying forward the President’s vision by bringing projects to the women with the hope that by 2030 no woman will be left behind,” Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Senator Monica Mavhunga said.

The government is upbeat about the women’s league empowerment projects that will help its inclusive development thrust particularly in rural areas

“I am happy with your program as Women’s league. Please continue with these programs that are building our nation because the nation is built by its people,” Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo said.

Cde Chinomona was accompanied by other members of the Zanu PF Women’s League national executive as they traverse the country on the women’s poultry empowerment initiative, complimenting previously introduced schemes that include the manufacture of soap and detergents, baking and sewing projects.
