THE Presidential Community Fisheries Programme has made significant strides in facilitating development in Zvishavane following the successful stocking of 10 000 fingerlings in Vengesa Dam.

The community fisheries project stands as a testament to the Second Republic’s commitment to driving positive change and inclusive development under the Rural Industrialisation 8.0.

‘We want to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for remembering our community. This project shows that the President walks the talk. The project will unlock new opportunities in the district. Before this fishery, life was hard, but now we are poised for greater heights,” a community member stated

“This programme is about building a future where everyone has a chance to succeed. We are committed to ensuring that gender equality is at the forefront of local economic development,” another noted.

After the project received fingerlings from the government, area traditional leader Chief Masunda said projects of this nature will help create employment for the youths and keep them away from the social ills such as drug and substance abuse.

“Fish farming integrated with other farming activities will greatly improve family income generation initiatives. I am confident that projects of this nature play a key role in mitigating the effects of drugs and substance abuse by our youths.”

The Presidential Community Fisheries Programme also aims to capitalise on the country’s abundant water resources and favourable climatic conditions for aquaculture.
