MUTORA Business centre in Gokwe North district came to a standstill as ZBC’s three radio stations staged a roadshow in preparation for the national independence celebrations to be held in the same district.
The country’s most listened to station Radio Zimbabwe, National FM and the Midlands based Central FM, took the cream of their presenters to Gokwe.
The ZBC radios roadshow is part of the broader activities by the state broadcaster in fulfilling the parent ministry’s mandate of publicising the national independence celebrations.
“As ZBC, we have seen it fit to bring our stations here and clear the way for our leadership which will be gracing this place for Uhuru celebrations,”ZBC’s Director for Radio services, Albert Chekayi said.
“The people in the locality deserve to be aware that they will be hosting the country’s leadership and this is one way of letting them know. We are very happy with the turnout by the people of Gokwe as they mingle with their favourite radio personalities. The radio stations’ personalities did not disappoint as they took turns to entertain the crowd.”
The Gokwe community was impressed to see some of their favourite radio personalities doing what they know best.
“Today was my lucky day. I got to see the radio president, Ndundu Chikara physically. We always hear their voices but today we saw them,” a Ndundu Chikara fan said.
“The independence celebrations have brought life here. Today radio stations are broadcasting live, putting Gokwe on the map. What more can we ask for. WE want to thank President Mnangagwa for remembering us,” a community member said.
“It is one of the best days of my life. To be given a chance to speak on radio is something I have always dreamt of. Indeed, dreams can come true,” a radio enthusiast said.
This year’s independence celebrations are being held at Nembudziya, in Gokwe North under the theme, Zim @45, devolve, and develop together towards vision 2030.
