THE City of Victoria Falls is constructing new water reservoirs as part of the Water, Sanitation and Health (WASH) programme whose objective is to improve water and sewer management in the resort destination.
In an ambitious programme meant to enhance service provision in the ever-growing Victoria Falls City, the council has injected US$4.5 million towards the construction of a 700 000 litre reservoir and a five million litre ground tank.
The total cost of the projects is US$14 million.
“For water, we have done 7,8 kilometres and the contractors are now laying the pipes. For sewer, we have not done much but different piping is now there,” Operations Engineer Shadreck Dube said.
“Victoria Falls City Council is doing quite well in capital projects, as we can see under this programme, water and sanitation will be adequately addressed,” Councillor, Nkanyiso Sibindi said.
Apart from the WASH-related projects, a drug and substance abuse rehabilitation centre is being constricted at Chinotimba Clinic in a partnership between the council, the Ministry of Health and Child Care and Mosi-oa-Tunya High School.
A new housing scheme with about 500 high-density housing stands is also taking shape.
“We are doing 12 kilometres of sewer and 78 kilometres of roads with a double skin tar. We are doing this for all the stands and connections,” the site manager for Highshot Engineering, Mr Chris Potter said.
These infrastructure projects are expected to support the rapid growth of Victoria Falls and improve living conditions in the city.
