UNICEF calls for ceasefire as Gaza conflict kills 322 children

THE United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, announcing that at least 322 children have been killed and 609 injured over the past 10 days due to Israeli airstrikes and ground operations.

In a statement, UNICEF said most of the affected children were already displaced, taking shelter in makeshift tents or damaged homes, amid the ongoing conflict.

In addition to the call for a ceasefire, the UN agency also emphasised the urgent need for the protection of civilians, including children, and humanitarian workers in Gaza.

Israel abruptly ended a two-month ceasefire with Hamas on March 18 by resuming bombing and ground operations in Gaza, increasing pressure on the group to free the remaining hostages in its captivity.
