THE government is enhancing efforts to digitally empower citizens following the launch of the Digitize Zimbabwe initiative in Mashonaland Central Province.
Bindura residents converged at Chipadze Stadium in Bindura this Friday to interact with service providers and air out their views on information and communication technology at the launch of the Digitalise Zimbabwe initiative and ICT expo which began on Thursday.
“We welcome the launch of this digitise initiative, we want the school learners in the remote areas to be included,” a Bindura resident stated.
Launching the initiative, the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Honourable Tatenda Mavetera said her ministry is on the drive to bridge the gap between government’s digital transformative efforts and public awareness.
“Under the Second Republic, we have made unprecedented strides in building a robust digital economy aligned with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of an empowered and prosperous society. From expanding connectivity to fostering innovation, our work is tireless.”
ICT equipment comprising laptops and printers were donated to Chipdze detoxification and rehabilitation facility on the side-lines of the expo in a development welcomed by Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Christopher Magomo.
“I was here last week when I heard a plea for equipment which I extended to Minister Mavetera. Within such a s short time, she has responded with this donation which I am so happy to receive and hand over to this facility. I hope both staff and clients of this facility will use it well and keep it safe.”
To complement the expo, a vehicle with ICTs dubbed the ‘Digitruck’ will be deployed to Mashonaland Central province, delivering free skills training in marginalised areas in line with government’s vision of inclusive development.
