SIX suspected armed robbers were gunned down in a shootout with the police in Bulawayo Tuesday morning.

The incident, which was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP), occurred at a tollgate along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road this Tuesday morning.

According to a ZRP statement, the now-deceased suspects had pounced on a shop in Insiza on Monday, where they stole undisclosed amounts of money and gold.

The suspects were then spotted at a tollgate outside Bulawayo Tuesday morning and upon being stopped, they allegedly started firing at the police officers, leading to a fatal shootout.

The suspects were all arrested but died at the United Bulawayo Hospitals, where they were taken for treatment.

Meanwhile, the ZRP has launched a manhunt for 20 suspects who pounced at Alpha Omega Farm, Marondera this Tuesday and vanished with more than US$70 000, a pistol, and three cell phones, among other valuables.

According to ZRP National Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the suspects were armed with rifles, pistols, bolt-cutters, machetes and iron bars, and attacked the farm security personnel.

It is also reported that the 20-member gang went on to assault family members after forcibly gaining entry into the family house.
