PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has praised entrepreneurs and companies in Bulawayo for creating employment and burning the midnight oil to produce quality products.
He was speaking after touring Carousel Garment Making Plant in the city this Thursday.
The Bulawayo business community, known for its predatory approach has been encouraged to continue with the high production levels to grow the city’s gross domestic product.
Speaking to ZBC News after touring the plant, President Mnangagwa said he is pleased that the company is pursuing higher levels of production and employs more than 550 people.
“I am so happy that this company is on the higher levels of capacity utilisation and employing a lot of people, most of them women,” the President said.
“This shows dedication and commitment. It also shows that they have confidence in the investment climate in the country. Let us remember that Bulawayo has always been the hub of manufacturing and when you look at these production levels, you can see that they have rolled their sleeves and are burning the midnight oil to continue scaling up production, which is what we want as a country, to have the support of the business community and Bulawayo has never disappointed in that regard.”
The firm supplies all outlets that are part of the Edgars family and is additionally servicing other retail outlets in the clothing sector, confirming that the country can produce its own textiles.
The tour saw other companies being challenged to emulate Carousel and diversify to exports.
