The War Veterans League has commended President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his people-centred programmes that have transformed lives across the country.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the US$1.5 million Presidential War Veterans Fund at the ZANU PF headquarters in Harare this Monday, War Veterans Secretary, Cde Douglas Mahiya said the freedom fighters are bound by discipline and commitment to national development, which President Emmerson Mnangagwa is spearheading.

He also warned rogue elements against denigrating the President and speaking on national as well as party issues without following due procedure.

“No war veteran is entitled to take ownership for participation during the liberation struggle as everyone played their part hence the unity of purpose. We reaffirm the Wing’s commitment and support to His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the resolution made at last year’s people’s conference for President Mnangagwa to be in office beyond 2028. The resolution was passed through to the national level and was presented at The People’s Conference and whoever may have had a different opinion was free to express it before the conference in Bulawayo,” said Cde Mahiya.

Cde Mahiya also clarified that the ruling ZANU PF party is a democratic movement that is bound by the wishes of the citizenry, not personal agendas.

“We cannot have people who are not even part of the War Veterans League dictating what we stand for and our principles. We speak with one voice just like during the days of the liberation. We fought for one cause to liberate this country from the colonisers and we continue to fight against renegades who are trying to detract the gains of the liberation struggle just because of their unbridled ambitions and cause divisions within the movement. He (Blessing Geza) is not a testament to the success of projects President Emmerson Mnangagwa has realised since his election into power. What more do you want? We continue to stand by him and abide by the constitution we wrote and can rewrite to suit our country for that matter,” he said.

President Mnangagwa is spearheading various developmental programmes under the leaving no one and no place behind the mantra, hence the unanimous call for the extension of his term to 2030.

The latest empowerment initiatives spearheaded by President Mnangagwa include the Presidential War Veterans Fund, which will see freedom fighters accessing loans for income-generating projects.
