THE Harare basketball community has been plunged into mourning after the death of legendary basketball figure, Ngoni Mukukula, this Sunday.

In a statement, the Harare Basketball Association (HBA) described Mukukula as a great basketball player, coach, administrator, team manager, and a huge advocate for the underprivileged beyond the basketball courts.

Mukukula’s impact on the local basketball scene was immense, particularly in the Dzivarasekwa high-density suburb where he grew up.

He was deeply involved in community-based basketball development programmes, which aimed to empower young people through the sport.

A former coach and administrator of the women’s national team, Mukukula was also co-founder of ‘Hoops 4 Hope’, an initiative that seeks to improve lives through basketball, providing a platform for young people to shun drug and substance abuse while identifying and nurturing talent in the community.
