TOURISM players are looking forward to brisk business during the festive season which is usually characterised by high occupancy rates and an increase in joyful activities.
With a growing middle class and a rising interest in local travel, domestic tourism is expected to play a significant role during the festive season and beyond.
The Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) confirmed this promising outlook in Victoria Falls this Tuesday.
“We are looking at exciting times ahead, obviously we are coming from a backdrop of a very busy year. As a destination, we have been doing very well, it is actually a record breaking year for most hotels here, in this destination. Looking at the festive season, it’s very exciting, the occupancy is building up nicely. By mid-December, we will be having good numbers to talk about. Everything is shaping up and everyone is ready for the festive season,” HAZ Matabeleland North chairperson, Mr Chiku Mulinde said.
Tour operators and activity providers are equally optimistic about the festive season.
Mr Lovemore Machipisa of MD-Africa Travel Tours said, “We are about 90 percent ,which is quite good .We know that as we get to Christmas, it will be 100 percent books. There are a lot of people who want to book last minute, especially from locals.”
“Things are looking good and now we have bookings coming in and as we talk now, bookings are at 40 to 50 percent. We are starting to get busy,” said Elephant and Cheetah Experience’s marketing manager Ms Janice Ncube
