THE role of the church in ensuring societies are united and live in harmony will come under the spotlight next week when the Trinity Methodist Church celebrates its 132nd anniversary.
Established in 1892, the Centre of Methodism, Trinity Circuit is set to celebrate its 132nd anniversary next week on the 8th of December.
With the foundation stone having been laid in 1892 at the centre of Harare business district, the circuit, 132 years later, has become a symbol of hope and faith for the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe.
As the grand anniversary approaches, preparations are in ernest and the Methodist Bishop Edmore Chiota highlights the role of the church in keeping faith and moral values of the society.
“As the Methodist Church, we are celebrating 132 years of working together for the Lord as a church that strives to serve the community, less privileged and uplifting those that are going through the most in this journey of life. The celebrations come as the circuit has embarked on a number of initiatives including campaigns and counselling sessions against drug and substance abuse which is now a parasite in our communities. As the church, it is our pride to bring hope to the hopeless and faith to the faithless.”
Bishop Chiota also spoke on the upcoming festive season a time of giving and celebrating with loved ones.
“As we enter the festive season it is imperative to remember the less fortunate and share the little that we have .We know we’re all seized with preparations for our families but let’s remember those in old people’s homes, orphans, widows and those without homes .And we must be safe and follow road rules as we travel for the festive season.so that will be together in 2025 God willing,” said the Bishop.
The Methodist Church derives its teachings and doctrine from John Wesley whose values were centred on keeping the faith in Christians.
The celebrations are testament of how the church is a community and place of refuge for congregants.
