Rural areas are benefitting from government’s push for an upper middle income society by 2030 following the commissioning of a classroom block at Mandimu Primary School in Shamva this Friday in a quest to improve access to quality education.

The Mandimu community had a double celebration as the classroom block commissioning was coupled with the ground-breaking for Mandimu Secondary School in a massive signal of continuous development in education.

“We are happy with this development, girls were travelling far to get to school and some had make shift houses where they would hide from the rain and end up not going to school,” said a community member.

“This is a momentous occasion for our area, the nearest school was in Shamva so far away and now our children will have a better life,” another added

Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo who officiated at the event emphasised the importance of smart partnerships in driving development.

“This is a legacy that we have received. Since 2017 when the new dispensation began, we see development being accelerated not only in Shamva, but all of Zimbabwe. This is key for us to attain Vision 2030”

RAM Mining Solutions and a local company which will construct Mandimu Secondary School committed to assisting the community especially girls who faced difficulties in getting to school.

“In two weeks’ time, we are going to see some foundations and other concrete works happening, what pushed us to pledge a school is that the girl child is disadvantaged in this community since schools are far away,” RAM Mining Solutions’ representative.

Shamva South Legislator, Honourable Joseph Mapiki praised the collaborative effort and commitment to improving the constituency.

“We now call these companies our ambassadors, we urged other companies to emulate what they have done by giving back to the community.”

The commissioning of the new facilities is part of a broader effort by the government to improve education infrastructure across the country.

Similar projects are in progress at Zvitokwe Primary School in Ward 19.
