THE SADC Extraordinary Summit has ended at the Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.
Reading the summit’s communique SADC Executive Secretary H.E Mr Elias Magosi said the summit has extended the operations of the SADC Mission in DRC (SAMIDRC) by another year in a bid to bring peace to the Eastern DRC.
The Summit applauded the DRC for seeking an end to the conflict, calling for all parties to respect the ceasefire agreements and peace initiatives being spearheaded by the region in line with the Luanda Agreement.
The Summit also deliberated the state of peace and security in Mozambique as updated by President Filipe Nyusi.
The SADC Chairperson, President Emmerson Mnangagwa in his closing address commended the forces in the DRC saying the extension of the operations of SAMIDRC reflects commitment to ensuring peace and security in that country.
He called upon member states to maintain the unity of purpose in ensuring that peace is achieved within the regional bloc.
The chairperson said with dialogue, all set targets and goals of SADC will be achieved.
