With Simba Bhora almost guaranteed of lifting the Premier Soccer League title, focus now shifts to the golden boot race with three matches to go.

Simba Bhora edged CAPS United 2-1 on Saturday to open a nine-points gap at the top of the log.

A day later, second-placed FC Platinum had a chance to keep it interesting and reduce the arrears, but the former champions were humbled two-nil by Dynamos, killing off the title race as a contest.

Shamva-based Simba Bhora now only need a point to take an unassailable lead, leaving the focus now on the top goal scorers who are still vying to be the leading marksman in the land.

Last year’s thirteen goal mark by Ngezi Platinum Stars’ Takunda Benhura has been breached by Highlanders striker Lynoth Chikuhwa.

Chikuhwa is yearning for the award after discovering his scoring form and his coach Kelvin Kaindu is optimistic Lynoth will be this season’s top goal scorer.

“This is a huge win for us in honour of our departed CEO who was driving us as a club in the right direction. We had agreed with the boys that the best way to honour him is by scoring a big margin. What makes it special is a hat-trick by one of our striker Lynoth who we all believe is now in the race for the award,” said Highlanders head coach, Kelvin Kaindu.

After yesterday’s hat-trick, Chikuhwa now leads the pack on 15 goals followed by last year’s winner Benhura on 12, same as William Manondo is also in the race to wrestle the award.
