THE government rolled out Harare’s Provincial Pfumvudza/Intwasa Distribution Programme for the 2024-2025 summer cropping season this Tuesday, with Epworth being the first to benefit.

Over 200 000 beneficiaries from Harare Metropolitan province are set to receive agricultural inputs under the programme.

Beneficiaries in Epworth have lauded government for the timely intervention.

“We thank our President for giving us seed and fertilisers. We expect a bumper harvest this year,” said a beneficiary.

Another added, “I have learnt a lot through the Pfumvudza training programme so I will use this knowledge to my advantage to ensure I get a bumper harvest.”

Harare Metropolitan Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Senator Charles Tavengwa revealed the inputs will be distributed at ward level.

“We expect about 200 000 people to benefit from this programme. The rainy season is upon us, people have already prepared the land and the training for Pfumvudza has been done. We don’t want anyone to die of hunger, people must be food self-sufficient.”

Epworth South legislator Honourable Honour Mbofana hailed the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme.

“We thank our President for the Pfumvudza programme which ensures that households are food self-sufficient even when the summer cropping season is characterized by low rainfall.”

With a favourable weather forecast of normal to above-normal rainfall for the 2024-2025 summer cropping season, farmers have high expectations of a bumper harvest.
