PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially commissioned the Bindura University of Science Technology’s (BUSE) School of Optometry and Auditory.
The school was established following a realisation that there was a gap in training in the sector within the country and the region.
The President said today’s commissioning signifies the completion of a vision which started years back.
He said the fruition of the project is a fulfillment of the long awaited desire to establish the key school.
The chairman of the Department of Optometry and a practicing optometrist, Dr Claudio Mutuwa said 35 students are graduating from the school of optometry this Friday.
He said the university’s optometry clinic is attending to an average of 120 patients per month.
Following this Friday’s commissioning, the school will be producing spectacles on site.
He said the local training of optometrists will ensure they add to the staff complement at the country’s public hospitals.
President Mnangagwa also commissioned a student dining hall at the Bindura University campus.
