THE Meteorological Service Department says the rainfall season is about to begin, with normal to above normal rains expected from November this year to March next year.

The current wet spell being experienced in some parts of the country will not last long, but significant rains are expected by the end of October.

“We have a general cloud band that drifted towards southern and northern Mashonaland provinces resulting in light showers, and some significant rains in Karoi, Odzi, and Hwedza which recorded above 25 millimeters. The wet spell will phase out into the weekend with significant rains expected again by the end of October,” Senior Meteorologist, Mr James Ngoma said.

Agronomist, Ms Wendy Madzura advised farmers to take advantage of the predicted normal to above normal rains to fully utilise their land and boost food security.

“From the information by the Meteorological Department, the prospects of a good season are very high. We advise farmers that the current rains are not for planting but to finalize land preparations and plant when advised to do so by relevant authorities,” she said.
