CAPS, Platinum ready to war

Story by Raynald Ngwarati

FC Platinum will be eyeing to reclaim pole position in the Premier Soccer League this afternoon when they take on limping giants CAPS United at Rufaro in a Matchday 22 encounter.

FC Platinum who were provisionally demoted off the top spot by Simba Bhora have a chance of redemption when they face Makepekepe who have struggled to get going this campaign.

Makepekepe have only managed one win in their last matches, losing four times and drawing five, while Pure Platinum Play have picked up six victories, three draws and a defeat in that period.

While a draw will take FC Platinum back to the top of the standings on goal difference, their opponents are under pressure with just four points separating them from the drop zone, with a defeat likely to cause more problems for Lloyd Chitembwe’s charges.

Coincidentally the other two fading giants will be in action away from home this afternoon as Highlanders travel to Mhondoro-Ngezi to face Chegutu Pirates at Baobab Stadium, while Dynamos have to negotiate past a stubborn Bulawayo Chiefs at Barbourfields Stadium.

Highlanders and Dynamos are in the top half of the log standings but seem to be slowly drifting off the intense pace of the title race with 10 games to go.

Meanwhile, a battle of the newcomers is also on the cards when Bikita Minerals host a resurgent Arenel Movers at Sakubva Stadium in what promises to be a thriller with a relegation fight between TelOne and Hwange rounding up the day’s fixtures.
