A 14-year-old boy from New Magwegwe Suburb in Bulawayo is alleged to have been strangled by suspected robbers.
The body of young Bright Dube was found lying helplessly at his home on the 24th of this month.
When ZBC News visited the home in New Magwegwe the atmosphere was sombre as people appeared confused and pained.
Sister to the deceased, Princess Dube said she found her young brother’s body covered by a bed mattress, with various items including a plasma television, a Lenovo laptop and food items missing.
“It was on the 23rd of August’s when l went to be a polling agent and came back around 12 pm he was fine. Around 6 pm l came back and went back to the polling station and he was asleep and l made sure he locked the doors. I came back in the morning and when l knocked the door there was no response. The first thing l saw was a missing TV and a laptop and l called him out and there was no response. I went round and called neighbors thinking he was kidnapped. When l entered the bedroom l realized he was lying on the floor and tried to wake him up but he didn’t not wake up that is when l sent a message to my grandmother,” she narrated.
The family and the community is still trying to come to terms with the sad incident as there appears to be no sign of a break-in.
“As father to the boy I am hurting because he was still young and from the look of things he was attacked while watching television. This will forever be marked in my heart. He was a jolly boy, he was our golden child. As a family we are praying that whoever did this be found and put in jail. It is a painful thing because he was strangled using a phone charger. I saw his sister coming and l asked her what is happening. I found the body of the boy and l checked if he was still alive. I then told his sister that from my experience as an adult he was dead but let us inform the police first,” said the deceased’s father.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is now probing the death of the 14-year-old boy.
Bright Dube was a Form One student at Magwegwe High School in Bulawayo.
