Hundreds of people in Bulawayo have benefitted from a free medical outreach programme organised by the Ministry of Health and Child Care and its partners.

People suffering from various ailments are getting medical assistance after the rollout of a free medical outreach programme in Bulawayo.

“We are grateful for the medical assistance we are receiving today, free of charge. We are grateful for receiving medication and medical advice from the medical personnel here today,” said one of the beneficiaries.

Another added, “This initiative is appreciated as it has come closer to our homes and is addressing most of the health conditions we are facing.”

“The efforts of the Ministry of Health and the NGOs are notable and appreciated as we have financial challenges with access to health care,” another reiterated.

Bulawayo Provincial Medical Director, Dr Maphios Siamuchembu applauded the efforts by development partners to complement government efforts in providing health care services.

“This initiative came due to the realisation that some people have challenges with access to health care due to various reasons. We are excited about the partnership with non-governmental organisations as it is going a long way to reaching residents closer to their homes,” he said.

The key partner in the programme, the Rotary Club International is satisfied with the success of the outreach programme which will run until this weekend.

“We are happy with the turnout of residents on the first day of the expo. We hope more people will come as we have medical personnel covering all fields, ready to assist the community,” said country coordinator for Rotary Family Health Days, Mr Sam Chikowore.

This initiative is in line with the government`s resolve to avail accessible medical services to all its citizens.
