Zimbabwean youths benefit from AI discussions at World Youth Festival

Story by Providence Maraneli

ZIMBABWEAN youths participating at the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Russia are confident of adopting modern technology being showcased at the global fiesta to propel the development agenda back home.

With climate change threatening the very existence of the human race, Zimbabwean youths attending the World Youth Festival in Sochi, Russia are adamant that modern technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on display can be harnessed to propel the country’s vision of an upper-middle-income society.

One such individual is Tapiwa Mukombe, who is leading an organisation known as One Africa Trust.

“We were looking at how AI can help in solving ecological problems and I came first in the competitions held and I think it can be applied back home,” said Mukombe.

“I am into agriculture, and I have attended several presentations on ecologically friendly methods and technologies which we are going adopt back home,” said a youth.

Another said, “I attended a seminar on ‘the time for Africa’ and I am impressed by the fact that the Second Republic has banned the export of raw base minerals and this is what built Russia. I appreciate the opportunities that we were given to be here, we will take something home.”

The youths are not alone, with their standard bearer promising to get down to serious business as the country pursues its transformative agenda.

“We are so excited to be here, and our country pretty much shares some virtues with Russia, the minerals, the agriculture land and we are going to learn a lot on how they did it and are doing it albeit under sanctions. This is a critical world platform to also market our country,” said the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Honourable Tino Machakaire.

The festival is an international youth fiesta, which is being held in Sochi, Russia until the 7th of this month.

More than 20 000 youths from across the globe are expected to attend the festival.
