Zimbabwe, Turkey reaffirm commitment to strengthen ties

ZIMBABWE and Turkey have reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together for the betterment of ties between the two countries.

This comes as the Turkish Embassy in Harare commemorated the country’s national day, with ambassadors from several countries designated to Zimbabwe attending the event.

On the 29th of October, Turkey celebrates the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey which was done in 1923.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Berna Versteden said the growing relations between Turkey and Zimbabwe have come with immense benefits.

“Africa with a young and dynamic population has immense potential, our relationship with Zimbabwe is growing as shown by the high number of high-level meetings. On the trade and economy front, hundreds of Zimbabwe visited Turkey. The results of our joint efforts in bilateral relations have increased by 30 percent in 2023 and will continue to grow.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, who was represented by the Acting Head of Europe and the Americas, Mr Charles Chishiri said Zimbabwe is working to ensure the outstanding agreements that seek to foster cooperation are signed.

“I wish to assure you of Zimbabwe’s readiness to work with Turkey to finalise the outstanding various draft agreements and MMOUs to increase trade and unlock business opportunities between the two countries. Furthermore, we look forward to the operationalisation of the agreement on trade and economic cooperation Turkey and Zimbabwe ratified in 2022 and 2024 respectively.”

The two countries have also condemned the ongoing war in Gaza.
