THE ruling ZANU PF party has commenced preparations for the Gutu East by-election, with senior officials urging party members to remain united in pursuit of a resounding victory.

Speaking during a ZANU PF Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting held this Sunday in Masvingo, National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, said the party is ready for the forthcoming Gutu East by-election and is confident of victory.

“We had our Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting here in Masvingo where we were tracing progress on some of the programmes we are doing as a party,” he said.

“These include the cell registration programme and data capturing. Among the topical issues was the preparation for by-elections in the Gutu East constituency and two wards of Gutu and Chiredzi. We are going to have our by-elections soon and by the time ZEC announces the dates for elections, we will be ready. We are confident of winning the Gutu East parliamentary seat and those two wards.”

Cde Machacha also spoke about discipline in the party, saying they are working on a social media policy to address abuse of social media platforms by some rogue elements.

“The issue of discipline remains very important in our party and of late we have been seeing abuse of social media platforms. As a party, we are working on our social media policy and it is going to guide party members on how we conduct ourselves on social media when we are doing party business or communicating party programmes,” he said.

Politburo members, Cde Lovemore Matuke and Cde Paul Mangwana spoke on the importance of being loyal to the President and the party.

“We are happy that our party members and Zimbabweans at large did not take part in demonstrations that were called for by rogue elements. Comrades let us remain loyal to our party and our President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa. We will continue achieving a lot in our communities and for our people,” Cde Matuke said.

“Comrades let us respect our leadership and ensure we play our party in our different roles as we strive to continue growing as a party,” Cde Mangwana said.

Gutu East by-election comes following the expulsion of Benjamin Ganyiwa who was the area legislator from ZANU PF.

ZANU PF Primary elections in Gutu East will be held on April 17.
