Veteran Journalist Mkhululi Sibanda declared a Liberation Hero

VETERAN journalist and Sunday News Assistant Editor Mkhululi Sibanda, who died on July 3, has been declared a Liberation Hero.

According to Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has granted the honour in recognition of his contribution to the preservation of the history of the liberation struggle and development of the media sector.

Sibanda, who died on the 3rd of this month at the age of 55, distinguished himself as one of the most respected journalists, rising to become Assistant Editor of the Sunday News, a Zimbabwe Newspapers publication.

He is widely recognised for his “Lest We Forget” column, which documented the experiences of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle and preserved important aspects of Zimbabwe’s liberation history.

Sibanda is expected to be buried in his rural home in Donkwe-Donkwe Village under Chief Nyangazonke in Kezi, this Friday.
