PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa this morning presided over the burial of National Heroine, Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Winnie Cabby Mandeya, at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
Cde Mandeya, a pioneering senior officer in the Air Force of Zimbabwe, passed away on 28 April at a local hospital in the capital. She was 64.
Widely regarded as a trailblazer for women in the military, Cde Mandeya was awarded several honours during her service, including the Liberation Medal, Independence Medal, and Mozambique Campaign Medal.
In recognition of her exemplary commitment and dedication, President Mnangagwa, as Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, appointed her to the rank of Air Vice Marshal in 2022.
Cde Mandeya is survived by her son, Munyaradzi Valentine Mandeya, and two grandchildren.
