New land tenure system empowers Zim farmers

Story by Tafara Chikumira

Beneficiaries of the land tenure title deeds are convinced the historic development will give them the much-needed energy to meaningfully contribute to the national agriculture transformation strategy.

The launch of the land tenure title deeds has consolidated the gains of the land reform programme through empowering farmers.

Those who have received their documents say the programme, which caught them by surprise, marks the beginning of a transformative farming business.

“I never thought I would witness such a day in my lifetime. Now that I have this title, I can safely go and farm without looking over my shoulders in fear of the unknown,” said a farmer who spoke to the ZBC News.

“We have just been empowered in a big way, thanks to the visionary leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.  The future of my children is now guaranteed,” another added.

“As a war veteran, I am happy that what we went to war for has finally been fulfilled. I can now rest in peace knowing that I have a legacy left,” another farmer added.

Other farmers heaped praises on the Second Republic, calling for speed of execution in the implementation programme.

“It is interesting to note that we have finally witnessed something huge in our farming carrier. We can’t wait for our turn to have such a critical piece of paper,” a farmer said.

Another added, “It’s a new dawn for Zimbabwe. We have just been called to this event not even aware of such an event. We have a God-given President who knows how to address people’s needs.”

Chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on Land, who is also the Minister of Defence, Honourable Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri noted that the Second Republic is moving to pursue an economic revolution after the success of the land reform programme.

“You have restored our dignity years after independence. Our farmers can now walk shoulders high as they can now attract investments following this historic event. Your village business units under agriculture 8.0 model are game changers. The future of this country’s agriculture landscape will never be the same,” she said.

The issuance of the land tenure title deeds marks a new chapter of empowerment as it will ensure land acquired under the agrarian reform programme is now bankable and transferable among locals.
