THE body of national hero Ambassador Victor Matemadanda will be airlifted from Harare to Gokwe Centre this Wednesday before being taken to his rural home in Sanyati, as the country prepares to bid farewell to the liberation war veteran, former legislator and diplomat.

In a statement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage said a brief ceremony will be held at Gokwe Centre to allow members of the public to pay their last respects to the late national hero.

Following the ceremony, Ambassador Matemadanda’s body will be flown to his rural home in Sanyati, Mashonaland West Province, where it will lie in state overnight.

A provincial send-off ceremony is scheduled for Thursday in Sanyati before the body is flown back to Harare later the same day.

The late national hero’s body will then lie in state at his Mt Pleasant residence ahead of burial at the National Heroes Acre on Friday.

Ambassador Matemadanda, who died in Harare following a short illness, served Zimbabwe in various capacities over several decades, including as a liberation war fighter, Member of Parliament and Ambassador to Mozambique and Eswatini.
